Product Overview

Made from three pieces of metal (tinplate, TFS, etc.) - body, bottom, and end. The body is typically printed flat before being rolled and welded. Therefore, printing is done on flat sheets.

First, rubber blankets for 3-piece can printing are designed with excellent dimensional stability. Since metal sheets are rigid and non-absorbent, the blanket must maintain uniform thickness under high pressure to guarantee even ink transfer across the entire flat sheet. A multi-layer construction is typically adopted, consisting of a compressible layer, reinforcing fabric plies, and a durable printing surface. The compressible layer helps absorb minor variations in metal sheet thickness and surface irregularities, ensuring smooth contact and reducing vibration during high-speed operation.

Second, superior surface resilience and solvent resistance are essential. Metal decorating inks often contain aggressive solvents, so the rubber compound must resist swelling, cracking, and degradation. The surface also requires high abrasion resistance because tinplate sheets can be sharp and may cause mechanical wear.

Finally, precise hardness and elasticity are critical to achieving sharp dot reproduction and consistent color density. The structural integrity of the blanket directly affects registration accuracy, print clarity, and overall production efficiency in 3-piece can manufacturing.
